A delivery from Whale & Bird should bring a smile to your face - and we know that plastic packaging is a great way to ruin the moment. Because of this, we’re actively phasing out cellophane wrapping for all cards sold through our website.
If you’re a wholesaler purchasing our cards, you can ask us to package them in fully recyclable cello bags, or go eu natural and have them sent naked!
The packaging material we use to send out orders is also completely free of plastic - right down to the paper-based tape (bonus: also easier to find the end of!) We’ve switched to paper-based jiffy bags instead of the kind filled with plastic bubble wrap, and (although our warehouse sometimes uses different packaging) everything that Whale & Bird use for sending out orders is completely biodegradable.
Growing them in our garden, having lunch beneath them, occasionally retrieving our cats from them. We love trees. All of our paper-based products are made from either FSC Certified or 100% recycled card and paper. This means when you buy cards, envelopes, postcards or wrapping paper etc from us, you know it’s been made from either sustainably sourced or fully recycled materials. And of course, when you’ve finished enjoying them, they can all be recycled again.
We’re proud to report that almost everything sold by Whale & Bird is made right here in the UK. As well as supporting the local economy, this helps to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. We look to work with printers who are as passionate about the environment as we are; using sustainably sourced materials and recycling any waste made during the manufacturing and printing process.
As a business, we know that we also have a responsibility that goes beyond our physical products. Because of this, we bank with Starling who have an excellent reputation for responsible, transparent investment, environmentally friendly practises and a diverse board. We think it’s important to put our money where our mouth is, by supporting charities we see doing important work. This year we started to donate a portion of sales from our Mary Joy Harris enamel pins to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. We’ll be looking to support more environmentally conscious charities in the future, so if you have any recommendations, let us know!
